Activities:

Student Council Member 2007-2011

Treasurer – Sophomore Year, Vice President - Junior Year

As a member and officer of the Student Council, I, along with other students initiated community activities such as “Feed a Family” during Thanksgiving where we collected and donated food to give to families in need.  I was also involved in Planning organizations such as the Homecoming and school dances (themes, funding, setup, etc.).

Class President Freshman Year & Senior Year

Being President of the Student Class entailed additional responsibilities separate from the Student Council. These included Planning Activities like Pride Week theme and events for our class and organization of the Senior Prom.

Youth Leadership Committee

I, along with my fellow students, developed and represented proposals before the Board of Education.  One of the proposals we submitted was to create and implement a plan to prevent students from being tempted by drugs and to stop bullying in the school.  This plan was presented to the School Board and was eventually adopted by the school.

Socrates once quoted that, “the world is full of wonders and none are more wonderful than man”. From this quote, Socrates was challenging the human mind to be used at its full potential and I believe I have the necessary skills for becoming one of the best peers to ever work in the film industry. My name is Jared Strand and my potential is being a leader in whichever field I’m placed in. Leadership is second nature to me as evidence shows from my High School when I led my class as their president for two years and still remained part of student council for all four years. I started my first job as a bus boy as young as fifteen.  I began working for Regal Cinema my sophomore year of High school and I’m still employed there to this day. Throughout the course of five years employed at Regal, I have received numerous awards and have also gained a respect in film which now guides where I want my career to take off. I also know how films should appeal to a general audience and what consumers want in a film. Recently, I was given the opportunity to be employed at Chick-Fil-A and in the year that I’ve been there, the company has shaped how to appeal with people in the friendliest and most polite way possible.

While this shows the physical labor of hard workmanship, I believe that a person’s goal can become fulfilled if perseverance and effort is put into it.   If there is one thing I have learned after being raised in a single parent home of three children (with myself being the oldest), it is that it takes the mindset of hard work and dedication to be successful. Throughout life, I have always tried to express my leadership persona and to do my best within my family and my academics. So, let me use my mind for your company at its full potential.

Host/ Executive of "Guys Night" Twitter Page

When Jared came up with his idea of making a movie podcast, it generated a spark. I went from someone who would barely watch movies to being exposed to new genres and reintroduced to old favorites. Since I'm new to critiquing films, I'd like to say my reviews are light and humorous. I believe that this podcast will broaden my cinematic horizons, so as time passes I will develop a taste and distaste for films; ultimately being able to speak in depth about what I've just watched. Even though putting my voice on the tape is something I most definitely enjoy, I feel that getting the Guys Night name out to the public is more important. With that being said, like the Guys Night Facebook page, follow our Twitter @GuysNightMovies, view on YouTube, and listen to us on ITunes. Thanks yall
